THE WHEEL, STUDENTS LEARN:
• the slalom, which teaches good eye and hand coordination and correct steering inputs; • evasive maneuvers, which provides the student the opportunity to make split-second decisions; • skid avoidance, which teaches causes of skids and their preven tion, as well as how to react; • backing up, which provides students with the opportunity to properly drive a car in reverse, while maintaining excellent control; and, • braking and turning, where students learn to maximize the potential of the brakes without los ing steering ability. Students are trained on both ABS and non-ABS cars. Driving in reverse may seem like a minor skill, but it isn't. "A lot of careless accidents happen in reverse," Ricci says.
