How Important are your Eyes?
Statistics show 90 percent of the information a driver receives is visual. Although, having good vision & protecting your eyes is essential for everyday safe driving, lets think about the human eye in a more security related tactical situation. Whether driving, shooting or using a control tactic on someone who has broken though a security checkpoint, we count on and need to protect our vision. Good eye protection is essential in our field whether to lessen eye fatigue while driving, protect from flying glass, dirt and debris, protecting from flying body fluids either while protecting a client or administering CPR, protecting against ejected casings and fragmentation, or even worse an IED. If we take care of our eyes and properly shield them we will be quicker in identifying a perceivable threat thereby giving us more time to begin to avoid, counter or escape the situation. This process starts with your vision. We first need to see the situation and perceive what the danger is. “Perception – Response time is an interval that starts when some object or condition enters the drivers visual field & ends when the driver has initiated a discernable response.” The quicker we can make this process happen, the quicker we can counter or escape the situation. Once again, it is most important to protect our eyes. Why? Because “the human eye, the organ of vision, is composed of several parts. Each of those contributes in a different way to allow light into the eye and to transpose light energy into nerve pulses. These impulses are sent to the brain for interpretation, giving us the experience of seeing.” (Dewar & Olson)
Below is a very real and current testimonial that Wiley-X received from Sgt. Zumaran Leonardo who is currently serving our country in Iraq. This scary testimonial is a perfect example of the true value of excellent eye protection.
Sgt. Zumaran Leonardo
“I am currently in Iraq and 2 days ago I got hit by an IED and I have
shrapnel all over my face, but nothing happen to my eyes because I was
wearing Wiley x, thank you for your high quality product, you all have
permission from me to publish my pictures.”
Both ADSI and Wiley-X would like to thank Sgt. Leonardo for his outstanding bravery, commitment and loyalty to our country and its’ people’s safety and security. Although he gave us permission to publish his pictures we did not feel it was proper since some people would think this is just a sales pitch. We are a serious training company and Wiley-X makes an excellent and proven product that we believe in. We truly want our clients to be as safe as they possibly can. If you are interested in Sgt. Leonardo’s pictures email us at info@1adsi.com we will happily send them to you.
