| Many of us spend a great deal of time in
our cars. The drive to work, picking up the kids from soccer practice,
grabbing a fifth of milk at the local stop and rob — these are
everyday tasks we give little thought to. But in the past few years,
the world has become a much more complicated place in which to live.
It's vital we give more thought to our driving habits. No, not
bumping the curb while pulling into the supermarket parking lot,
but security driving habits. Watching out for carjackers or kidnappers
or — even worse — an ambush. But that's our world now.
As much as we may want to live in a "Mayberry" world,
we don't. It's time to pay attention and to be safe.
In some countries, kidnapping for cash is a cottage industry. Nor
are we immune to this here. We all need to be alert while driving
the family car. There are quite a few schools that offer training
in driving skills. A few years ago, this training consisted of watching
out for the other guy or tips on how to avoid skidding on black
ice.
